Theory of Knowledge--Mrs. Hegland
The Theory of Knowledge course at Mountain View High School is the cornerstone of the International Baccalaureate Programme. The course is designed to engage students to think in divergent ways by critically evaluating and sharing their knowledge and experiences. Students will challenge themselves to develop personal modes of thought and communicate their insights and reasons clearly, consistently, and deliberately. They will explore knowledge in the global society and its importance and impact on the global environment. The respect for a diversity of opinions developed in this atmosphere will extend beyond the classroom and into the students’ experiences in a global society. Internationalism will be at the core of the discussions as the class participants reflect and question how they know what they know.
Class Announcements
Online Grades
Since our class is on the alternating day schedule, assignments and grading will be a bit different from semester courses.  Today was the third meeting of our class; semester classes have already met for a week.  Please bare that in mind in terms of the number of assignments thus far.  Thanks.

OASIS
Grades will be visible online this year. You and your parents should visit the school website to become familiar with OASIS and its workings. The following grading codes will be used:
·          NHI—Not handed in. The work for this assignment was not submitted. The NHI is calculated as 0 points.
·          Pend—Assignment is pending. This will be used to indicate that an assignment has been completed, but it has not yet been graded and entered into the grade book. Pending has no calculation.
·          E—Assignment excused. This will be used for in-class assignments that cannot be recreated. Excused has no calculation.
·          I—Incomplete. Incompletes are used when work still needs to be turned it.
·          NG—No grade. No graded is awarded when an assignment is not part of the student’s grade.
Parents: If you have questions while viewing grades on OASIS, please open the lines of communication with your child and give him/her the opportunity to answer questions about assignments and grades. When you need further explanation, please do not hesitate to email me at heglandgm@staffordschools.net.
